MAY IS "I BIKE DERBY" MONTH 

Join the "I Bike Derby" initiative and celebrate the joy of cycling throughout the month of May! Cycling is a fantastic way to improve your health, explore Derby, and have some fun. Whether you're a seasoned cyclist or just getting started, there's something for everyone in "I Bike Derby". You can fill out the Derby Bikes Fitness Pledge at https://www.derbyrec.com/DocumentCenter/View/5598/Derby-Bikes-Pledge-Form. Biking events are FREE! NEW! I Bike Derby Drawing Contest

Celebrate the joy of cycling with our FREE drawing contest! This event is open to all young artists age 18 & under, with categories for three different age groups. Let your imagination run wild as you create unique and inspiring artwork featuring bicycles, cycling adventures, or the spirit of Derby on two wheels. All entries will be judged by a panel of local artists. Certificates of Recognition will be awarded for the most creative, imaginative, and skillfully executed artwork in each category. Submit artwork by May 31 to the DRC front desk. Digital art can be submitted to stacy@derbyrec.com.

Little Riders (ages 4-7) Express your creativity with colorful drawings and paintings.

Junior Cyclists (ages 8-11) Explore different mediums like crayons, markers and colored pencils. 

Teen Trailblazers (ages 12-18) Showcase your artistic talents with drawings, paintings, or even digital art.

National Ride A Bike Day | Sunday, May 3

Celebrate the joys of cycling on National Ride A Bike Day. Spend the day exploring Derby by bike, enjoying a leisurely ride with family and friends, or participating in a local cycling event. Remember to wear your helmet and practice safe cycling habits. Send in your bicycling photos to stacy@derbyrec.com by May 5 to be included in a Facebook collage. Let's make it a day to remember!

National Bike to Work Day | Friday, May 15

Whether you commute to work regularly or are looking to try it out for the first time, we encourage you to ditch the car and hop on your bike. Enjoy the fresh air, get some exercise, and experience the joy of cycling to work. 

Light the Night" Family Bike Ride | Friday, May 22 from 7-8:30 p.m. | Panther Stadium Parking Lot

Get creative and decorate yourself and your bike to “light the night” for an evening of FREE family fun. Decorations must allow the participant to ride safely. Bring the entire family!

Bicycle Rodeo: Hosted by the Derby Police Department, children learn basic safety precautions of crossing the street, riding a bicycle on the street, the dangers of railroad crossings, and how to safely enter and exit a school bus. Receive a coupon for a free bike helmet upon completion of the Bike Rodeo!

Ice Cream Social: Stop by our table in the parking lot for a cool treat while you visit local heroes from our Derby Police and Fire & Rescue Departments.
