Corporate Wellness

2
  • Workplace wellness is an organizational commitment to activities or programs that support healthy behavior in the workplace which in turn improve the health outcomes of employees.

Workplace wellness programs are as unique as the organization. Programs can consist of a variety of activities such as:
    • Health fairs
    • Health education
    • Medical screenings
    • Health coaching
    • Weight management programs
    • Wellness newsletters
    • Subsidized memberships to fitness centers
    • On-site fitness programs
    • Tobacco cessation programs and other health education programs

Workplace wellness programs can also include organizational policies designed to facilitate employee health including allowing flex time for exercise, providing on-site kitchen and eating areas, offering healthy food options in vending machines, holding “walk and talk” meetings, and offering financial and other incentives for participation. Generally workplace wellness encompasses the overall creation of a “culture of health” within the work site.
    Corporate Wellness
  • Employee lifestyles count for the vast majority of health care clam costs. Studies have shown that 87.5% of health care claims costs are due to an individual’s lifestyle. Source: Indiana University-Purdue University, Fort Wayne (IPFW) Study, 2006.

Investing in workplace wellness programs reduces employer’s costs. A review of scores of published studies on work site wellness found that the Return on Investment is $3.48:1 due to reduced medical costs and $5.82:1 due to reduced absenteeism. Source: The Center for Work and Health, 2003.

Unsinkables

1
  • Yes. Unsinkables students require supervision in the locker rooms to get changed and out to the pool area. Most teachers are female so the program particularly needs male parents/guardians to assist in supervising program particpants in the locker room area. Please contact Aquatics staff at 788-3781 or your child's teacher if you are able to assist.

DRC Endowment Fund

5
  • The $20,000 match doubles the impact of your gift! For every dollar donated to the Derby Recreation Commission Endowment Fund, a generous donor will contribute an equal amount, up to $20,000. That means your support goes twice as far in helping future lifeguards receive the certifications they need.

    DRC Endowment Fund
  • Donations to the Derby Recreation Commission Endowment Fund directly support individuals seeking lifeguard certification. Your gift helps cover the cost of the American Red Cross Lifeguard course, including training materials, instructor fees, and certification processing, so that motivated community members can earn their certification without financial barriers.

In addition to removing financial obstacles, your donation strengthens our ability to recruit and retain qualified lifeguards for local pools and aquatic programs. This ensures safer facilities and builds a reliable pipeline of well-trained lifeguards for years to come.

    DRC Endowment Fund
  • A fully staffed pool or waterpark is a safe pool/waterpark. When the financial barrier is removed, we are able to recruit from a broader and deeper pool of talent, ensuring we have highly trained, attentive eyes watching over our guests. This fund directly contributes to drowning prevention and operational excellence at our facilities.

    DRC Endowment Fund
  • The American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification course offered at the DRC costs $200 per person. This fee includes all class materials, American Red Cross fees, and instructor costs.

    DRC Endowment Fund
  • DRC funded lifeguard training is available to individuals who plan to work as lifeguards for the DRC. This ensures that future staff members can gain the required training without financial barriers while helping us maintain a strong, well-prepared team.
