Special Programs is a category of events, classes, clinics, workshops, and special population programs offered by the Derby Recreation Commission.
Camp DRC and School's Out OAC is offered as a fun day camp for when kids have a day off from school. Summer youth camps are offered for Arts and Culinary. Horseback Riding Camps & Clinics are offered year around. Registration for camps can be made online.
Recreation Station is a licensed full day 10-week summer camp for school aged kids grades K-5th (based on 2025-26 year). Camp runs from 7:00am to 6:00pm Monday through Friday May 26-July 31, 2026. All campers receive a t-shirt and weekly newsletter. Campers will bring their own lunch and drink each day; snacks are provided. Those who register for all 10 weeks receive an individual FREE season pass to Rock River Rapids and are eligible to enroll in RecStation+ classes with art and culinary themes that meet on Fridays from 8:30am-11:30am or new this summer, Swim Lessons, for an additional fee. A Parent Manual is available to download and review and a Camper Information Form and Health History Form for each child attending must be completed online before child will be allowed to attend Recreation Station. Links will be available once registration is open. Payment plans are accepted for 10 week enrollments. Registrations with payment plans must be made at the Derby Recreation Center. Registration begins Spring 2026.

The DRC offers a wide variety of family-friendly special events in the USD 260 community including Horseback Riding Camp, Brunch w/the Bunny, Kayaking, OAC Family Fest, Egg Hunts and More! Most special community events are FREE or at a reduced cost due to sponsorship. Special Populations features programs and events for individuals with mental and/or physical disabilities. It also includes Free Spirits activities. Free Spirits program is designed for individuals with physical or intellectual disabilities. Free Spirits assists people to participate in various social, recreation and leisure activities.
