soc_anm.gif (14024 bytes)Soccer League This league is offered both fall and spring sessions. We start at 1st grade and go all the way through senior high. We also offer instructional for the kindergarten age during the spring session only.  Registration for the Spring League begins in November.  Registration for the Fall League begins in May.
Tae Kwon Do Learn the basic of this growing sport. Tae Kwon Do develops motivation, self discipline, and physical conditioning. This is for all levels of skill and ability. The class is offered in all the sessions.
Gymnast.gif (7117 bytes)Gymnastics We offer a basic gymnastics class for kids interested in this sport. The class is offered every session. Age is restricted to 4 years and older. We do offer a Tiny Tumblers class for the 3 year olds.  These classes are not offered during the fall session.
golfball2.gif (3248 bytes)Golf Lessons This program is designed for the beginners and intermediate youth golfer. Time will be spent with each golfer on grip, stance, swing, chipping, driving, and putting. The basic rules and etiquette of the game will be discussed throughout the session.
Racquetball Lessons The course is designed to teach youth the basic skills, rules, and strategies of racquetball. This sport is an excellent way to improve hand eye coordination.
Baseball / Softball Leagues When the days are hot, so are the diamonds. Our youth baseball / softball leagues run in June and July. Practice begins in May. Ages start at 7 years old and go through 12 years old for boys. Girls start at 7 years old and go through 18 years old.  Summer session only.  Registration begins in March.

YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE
 

Put on your high tops for the fun of the youth basketball season.  All divisions will play eight games.  Weekly practices, gym space and times will be announced by coaches.  Parents are encouraged to volunteer as a coach.  Coaches’ meeting is Thursday, December 2 at 6:00pm at the Derby Recreation Center.  A $10.00 late fee will be assessed beginning November 22.

VERUS BANK/DRC SPRING SOCCER LEAGUE   

Now is the time to sign up for Spring Soccer.  All teams are co-ed.  Volunteer coaches are needed.  The DRC will provide training if you or a friend would like to coach.  Contact the DRC for more information.  Coaches are required to attend the NYSCA Clinic to become certified.  Coaches’ meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 15 at 6:00pm.  A $10.00 late fee will be assessed beginning Monday, March 7.

LITTLE KICKERS 

Little Kickers is to introduce the basic skills and techniques of the game of soccer.  Participants will learn the fundamentals and team play concepts that will help prepare them for league play next fall.  Parents are encouraged to participate in class activities.  Shin guards are required.

RACQUETBALL LESSONS 

It’s time to learn the fundamentals of racquetball, which can also be a great cardiovascular workout.  This class will teach you the basic rules, skills, and strategies of the game.  Racquets will be available.  Eye guards are required for each student.

FAST-PITCH SOFTBALL TOURNAMENTS      

Get the season off to a good start with one of these ASA fast-pitch softball tournaments.  These are ASA sanctioned tournaments and open to class B-C teams.  There is a four-game guarantee and awards will be given to top finishers.

DRC FLAG FOOTBALL 

DRC Flag Football is for boys and girls, 6-14 years old.  The league is a five-on-five version of traditional flag football.  Volunteer coaches are needed and encouraged to sign up.  All divisions are co-ed.  All teams play eight games.  Ages are determined as of April 1, 2005.  A $10.00 late fee is assessed beginning Monday, March 7. Coaches meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 15th at 6pm.

GYMNASTICS 

Students are introduced to rolls, handstands, cartwheels, stretching and safety skills during this class.  Students will develop balance beam and vaulting skills.  Students will enjoy the safe and fun atmosphere of this class.  All skill levels are welcome.

TAE KWON DO 

Learn the basic skills of the Korean Martial Art of Tae Kwon Do from experienced black-belt instructors.  Get great exercise as you develop self-esteem, self-confidence and self-defense.  The family that kicks together, sticks together!

TINY TUMBLERS    

This is a basic introduction to gymnastics with an emphasis on tumbling.  This session will concentrate on motor skill development.  Students will learn basic stretches and the floor beam will be used to further develop balance and movement.

NYSCA COACHES’ CLINIC 

The National Youth Sports Coaches’ Association (NYSCA) is a national coaches’ certification program designed to assist the local volunteer coach in several aspects of coaching young athletes.  The topics covered include: psychology and philosophies of youth sports, sports pedagogy, practice and game organization, first aid, and sport specifics.  Certification is mandatory in order to be a Derby Recreation Commission youth sports coach.  After completion of the introduction to coaching youth sports, members qualify to advance to the NYSCA Certified Coach Continuing Education Program.  Coaches will automatically receive an invitation to continue their membership in NYSCA by returning the CEU form and signing the code of ethics pledge.
