Soccer League This league is offered both fall and spring sessions. We
start at 1st grade and go all the way through senior high. We also offer
instructional for the kindergarten age during the spring session only.
Registration for the Spring League begins in November. Registration
for the Fall League begins in May. |
| Tae Kwon Do Learn the basic of this growing sport. Tae Kwon Do develops
motivation, self discipline, and physical conditioning. This is for all levels of skill
and ability. The class is offered in all the sessions. |
Gymnastics
We offer a basic gymnastics class for kids
interested in this sport. The class is offered every session. Age is restricted to 4 years
and older. We do offer a Tiny Tumblers class for the 3 year olds.
These classes are not offered during the fall session. |
Golf
Lessons This program is designed for the
beginners and intermediate youth golfer. Time will be spent with each golfer on grip,
stance, swing, chipping, driving, and putting. The basic rules and etiquette of the game
will be discussed throughout the session. |
| Racquetball Lessons The course is designed to teach youth the basic skills,
rules, and strategies of racquetball. This sport is an excellent way to improve hand eye
coordination. |
| Baseball / Softball Leagues When the days are hot, so are the diamonds. Our youth
baseball / softball leagues run in June and July. Practice begins in May. Ages start at 7
years old and go through 12 years old for boys. Girls start at 7 years old and go through
18 years old. Summer session only. Registration begins in March. |
Basketball
League When old man winter shows his face,
that means its time for DRC basketball. We offer a league for children between 3rd
grade and 12th grade. Winter session only.
Registration begins in September. |

BASKETBALL LEAGUE

Put on your high tops for the
fun of the youth basketball season.
All divisions will play eight games.
Weekly practices, gym space and times will be announced by
coaches. Parents
are encouraged to volunteer as a coach.
Coaches’ meeting is Thursday, December 2 at 6:00pm at the Derby
Recreation Center. A
$10.00 late fee will be assessed beginning November 22.

NYSCA COACHES’ CLINIC
|
|
The
National Youth Sports Coaches’ Association (NYSCA) is a national
coaches’ certification program designed to assist the local volunteer
coach in several aspects of coaching young athletes.
The topics covered include: psychology and philosophies of youth
sports, sports pedagogy, practice and game organization, first aid, and
sport specifics. Certification
is mandatory in order to be a Derby Recreation Commission youth sports
coach. After completion of
the introduction to coaching youth sports, members qualify to advance to
the NYSCA Certified Coach Continuing Education Program.
Coaches will automatically receive an invitation to continue
their membership in NYSCA by returning the CEU form and signing the code
of ethics pledge.
